CDC and CSTE partnered in 2017 and 2018 to provide a webinar training series on writing for MMWR. The objective of the series was to improve the quality of MMWR submissions by State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial epidemiologists.  This course has adapted the recorded webinars into an online course with three lessons. The speaker for each lesson is Charlotte Kent, PhD, MPH, Executive Editor of the MMWR Series.

 

MMWR Weekly Overview and Initial Considerations in Developing a Report

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

1. Understand the criteria for publication in MMWR Weekly
2. Describe the structure of an MMWR Weekly article.
3. Describe the value of preparing dummy tables and figures and of developing a working title.

MMWR Editor’s Dream: Submission that is innovative, scientifically rigorous, useful, and well written
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

1. Identify and describe strategies to foster submissions that are innovative, scientifically rigorous, useful, and well-written.
2. Describe strategies to obtain feedback prior to submission.
3. Understand the role of tables and figures in presenting data that clearly illustrate a study’s key results.

Clear writing and successful navigation of MMWR feedback

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

1. Describe writing techniques specific to MMWR.
2. Discuss strategies to navigate the MMWR submission, review and acceptance process.
