In partnership with the Compassion Institute and funded by the CSTE Foundation, CSTE is pleased to share the first webinar of our four-part membership series on resiliency topics. The first webinar includes topics for burnout and self & collective care, and webinar learning objectives are below. The intended audience is for all CSTE members.

Jane works at the intersection of inner states of being and systems change. She is Program Director / Content Specialist at the Compassion Institute, where she oversees, designs, and facilitates self and collective care initiatives in the health sector. Jane has partnered with community health centers, primary care associations, medical schools, hospitals, and public health agencies to support organizations to care for their people and patients, and move toward more humane and caring cultures. 

Burnout and Self & Collective Care

By the end of the lesson, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the six major organizational risk factors that drive burnout.
  2. Identify some ways the six major organizational risk factors show up in one's workplace.
  3. Understand the concepts of self and collective care and examples of what they can look like in the workplace.
  4. Be equipped with practices to help regulate one's nervous system in challenging situations.

Culture of Public Health and Self & Collective Care

By the end of the lesson, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the role of culture and systems in shaping the day-to-day experience of public health professionals.
  2. Inquire into the culture of public health and how cultural biases manifest in one's own behaviors and in the workplace, particularly as they contribute to stress and burnout.
  3. Be equipped with practices to help draw healthy boundaries, while regularly aligning with one's values and how one wants to live life everyday, at work and elsewhere.

Work, Life, and Self Care

By the end of the lesson, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand some of the historical factors that have contributed to modern day norms in the workplace, and inquire into other healthy ways that individuals can relate to work.
  2. Understand what self-compassion is and is not.
  3. Be equipped with self-compassion practices to better care for oneself in moments of stress.

Collective Care at Work

By the end of the lesson, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand some of the historical factors that have contributed to modern day norms in the workplace, and inquire into other healthy ways that individuals can relate to work.
  2. Understand how culture change occurs within organizations and examples of change initiatives. 
  3. Understand the various roles in a system, and inquire into one's own roles and the collaborators one needs to co-create organizational change. 
  4. Understand the difference between empathy and compassion, and why the distinction is important for self and collective care. 
  5. Be equipped with practices to shift ones mindset towards delf and collective care, including in moments of stress.
